Overview of events

Events are a collection of metadata and relevant media (videos and images) that are sent to SPEDIONline for viewing and analysis. Events are triggered on the basis of specific behaviours observed whilst driving that could be dangerous.

When an event is triggered, the driver is warned in the cab and the events are uploaded to SPEDIONline, where they are stored for 31 days.

Correction by the driver is possible
The following events are only uploaded to SPEDIONline if the driver does not adjust their behaviour within a certain time:

  • Eating and drinking
  • Driver not wearing a seatbelt
  • Mobile phone use
  • Possible fatigue
  • Smoking
  • Distracted driving

Information about events
All events contain at least the following information:

  • Timestamp
  • Location
  • Option to view the video

Settings

1. Vehicle type

You can select the type of vehicle in which the dashcam is installed.
This setting determines the sensitivity for individual events.

Click on Private at the top and then select the appropriate vehicle type. You can choose between Private, Van and Trailer.

2. Type of event

Events can be uploaded as text, images or videos. You can set this for each individual event.

Settings Description
Off The event is not recorded by the camera and is not uploaded.
Event only The event is recorded and uploaded to SPEDIONline as text. If required, the recordings can be retrieved from the camera’s SD card.
Image The event is recorded and uploaded to SPEDIONline as an image. If required, the recordings can be retrieved from the camera’s SD card.
Video The event is recorded and uploaded to SPEDIONline as a video.

Click on the arrow to change the setting.

3. Type of warning

For some events, you can choose whether the driver should receive only an audible warning, only a visual warning, or both. For visual warnings, a corresponding icon is displayed on the dashcam screen.

Click the relevant toggle to enable the warning.

List of events

Event Description
Button pressed The driver manually triggers an event when they notice an unusual incident that they wish to record. To trigger an event, the driver presses the event button on the dashcam.
Deceleration The driver significantly reduces their speed. Example: emergency braking; heavy braking.
Acceleration The driver suddenly increases their speed. Example: Rapid acceleration, a quick increase in speed from 65 km/h to 100 km/h.
Abrupt left turn The driver turns sharply to the left.
Abrupt right turn The driver turns sharply to the right.
Speed limit Speed is recorded by the dashcam’s GPS. If the driver is travelling at a speed that exceeds the speed limit configured in SPEDIONline, this event is triggered.
Vibration The vehicle moves suddenly whilst the camera is in standby mode. The event is triggered if a change in G-forces is detected even though the vehicle should not be moving. Example: Another vehicle has reversed into yours. This event is uploaded directly to SPEDIONline and is not saved to the SD card.
Inattentive driving The driver is distracted and not concentrating on the road. Example: They do not look straight ahead for several seconds or exhibit any of the behaviours listed as distracted driving.
Tampering The event is triggered when the cover over the SIM and SD card slots is opened. The dashcam detects this via a magnet under the cover. This event is uploaded directly to SPEDIONline and is not saved to the SD card.
Power supply interrupted The power supply to the dashcam is interrupted whilst driving.
Smoking The driver is smoking.
Eating and drinking The driver is currently eating or drinking (one or two sips are fine). The event is triggered after approximately 20 seconds.
Mobile phone use The driver is using a mobile phone and is holding it, for example, on their lap or in their hand.
Driver not wearing a seatbelt If the driver’s seatbelt is not fastened, a warning is issued in the cabin after 50 seconds, depending on the configured audible or visual warnings. If there is no change, an event is triggered after a further ten seconds and, if configured, an additional warning is issued.
Possible accident The vehicle’s G-forces are very high, indicating a possible collision.
G-sensor normal The vehicle’s G-forces are higher than they should be.
G-sensor high The vehicle’s G-forces are higher than they should be and even higher than the value that triggers the “G-sensor normal” event.
Incorrect PIN code An incorrect PIN has been entered three times within three minutes. This applies to both administrators and drivers.
Tailgating The vehicle has come too close to the vehicle in front whilst travelling at more than 5 km/h. To ensure the alarm functions correctly, the vehicle must first be calibrated properly. Enter the desired values.
Obstructions The lens in the driver’s cab has been completely obscured for more than 40 seconds.
Lane change The vehicle crosses a certain number of road markings within a specific time period. Enter the desired values. Possible values: 2–10 lines within 5 to 60 seconds
Possible fatigue May be triggered if the driver has already driven for at least the configured number of hours (counting starts at midnight). Example: The driver’s head/eyes are not directed towards the road. Enter the desired number of hours. Possible values: between 4 and 20 hours
QR code The lens in the cab scans a QR code.
Entering standby mode The dashcam switches to standby mode when no movement is detected. You can set the time after which it should switch to standby mode (default: 10 minutes; maximum: 60 minutes). This event is only sent to SPEDIONline as a text notification. The dashcam must be constantly powered for this event to be triggered.
Exiting standby mode The dashcam exits standby mode when the motion sensor detects changes in the GPS and the vehicle starts moving. A sudden, jolting movement may also cause the dashcam to exit standby mode.
Driver check-in The driver is checked in by the device via a QR code or by entering a 5-digit driver PIN code.
Driver check-out The driver has been checked out of the device via the user interface and removed.
No check-in The driver did not check in via the device when prompted.
SD card formatted An SD card has been successfully formatted.
Power on The dashcam is switched on.
Power off The dashcam is switched off.
