What do the icons in the top bar of the Android device mean?

Here you will find an explanation of the common icons in an Android device:

Please note that the icons may differ slightly depending on the manufacturer. Therefore, pay particular attention to the shape of the icons.


Icon Name Explanation
No network This icon is displayed when you have no network connection. You cannot receive calls or text messages. You are not connected to the Internet.
Signal strength The fuller the dark bar, the better the signal strength.
Roaming The letter R next to the signal strength means that you are roaming. You are outside your own network coverage area.
GRPS You are connected to the GPRS network.
Edge You are connected to the Edge network.
HSPA+ You are connected to the HSPA+ network.
LTE You are connected to the LTE network.
WLAN You are connected to a WLAN network.
Bluetooth You have activated the Bluetooth function.
GPS You have activated the GPS function.
Incoming call You receive a call.
Missed call You have missed a call.
New message You have received a message.
Alarm active You have activated an alarm.
Vibration active You have activated the vibration.
Silent mode active You have activated silent mode. Your mobile phone will neither ring nor vibrate for calls or messages.
Flight mode You have activated offline mode. From now on, you will no longer receive any calls or text messages and you will no longer be connected to the mobile Internet.
Battery charge status The larger the dark area, the higher the battery charge status of your battery.
No SIM card You have not inserted a SIM card in your Android device.
