Article summary

CAUTION - Danger and injury due to electric shock

If cables are cut, the ends of the cables must be insulated to prevent contact with the open ends.

Installation of used cable loom

If you would like to install a used TruckBox E in another vehicle, please note the following:

  • Check the cable loom visually and mechanically for loose connections before reinstalling.
  • Reconnect severed resistors after measurement.

If the existing cable loom can no longer be used, you must install a new cable loom.
You can order a new cable loom from SPEDION at versand@spedion.de.

Variant 1: Connection via 12-pin FMS connector

This variant provides data tapping via the FMS interface with 12-pin FMS connector.

Your vehicle has the 12-pin FMS connector plug.
You have activated the remote download function of the digital tachograph.
You have activated the FMS interface.

  1. Look for the 12-pin connector in your vehicle.
  2. Measure the resistance directly at the disconnected green plug of the vehicle between contacts 6 and 9.

Option 1: Measurable resistance of 120 Ohm
You do not need to make any adjustments. Continue with the next step.

Option 2: Measurable resistance of 0 Ohm
Cause: There is a short circuit.
Determine and eliminate the cause of the short circuit.

Option 3: Measurable resistance of 60 Ohm
Disconnect the yellow-green bridge between contacts 13 and 2 on the Molex connector of the TruckBox E.

  1. Compare the wiring of the 12-pin connector of the SPEDION cable loom with that of the vehicle.
→ If the wiring of the 12-pin connector does not match, please contact SPEDION Support. You can order an adapter here.
  2. Connect the 12-pin connector of the SPEDION cable loom to that of the vehicle.
  3. Continue with the connection of your Android device to the power supply.
Changes made by the vehicle manufacturer

Please note that all information is without guarantee and may be subject to change by the vehicle manufacturer.

Installation of special cases

Please note that there may be special requirements for the installation of the TruckBox E in certain vehicle types.
In any case, make sure that you have read the Particularities FMS and, if necessary, prepare your vehicle according to these special requirements!
If the special features are not observed, the functionalities may be impaired and the vehicle will have to return to the workshop.

Variant 2: Connection without 12-pin FMS connector

This variant allows data to be tapped via the FMS interface without a 12-pin FMS connector

Your vehicle does not have a 12-pin FMS connector.
You have activated the digital tachograph.
You have activated the FMS interface.

  1. Remove the 12-pin FMS connector from the SPEDION cable loom.
  2. Measure the resistance between the CAN-Low and CAN-High cables of the FMS interface.

Option 1: Measurable resistance of 120 Ohm
You do not need to make any adjustments. Continue with the next step.

Option 2: Measurable resistance of 0 Ohm
Cause: There is a short circuit.
Determine and eliminate the cause of the short circuit.

Option 3: Measurable resistance of 60 Ohm
Disconnect the yellow-green bridge between contacts 13 and 2 on the Molex connector of the TruckBox E.

  1. Connect the black-green cable (CAN-Low) and the yellow-green cable (CAN-High) of the SPEDION cable loom to the FMS interface of the vehicle. (SPEDION cable loom LINK EINFÜGEN).
  2. Also wire the green (15), red (30) and black cable (31) manually.
  3. Continue with the connection of your Android device to the power supply.

Variant 3: Connection to the digital tachograph

CAUTION - Safety shutdown of the digital tachograph with remote download by several telematics devices

If several telematics devices want to perform a remote download from a digital tachograph, this can lead to a permanent and irreversible safety shutdown. The digital tachograph can then no longer be used.
A maximum of one telematics device may perform a remote download from a digital tachograph.

Purple cable

Determine whether the automatic driver log-in with driver card function is to be used in the SPEDION App. If this is the case, SPEDION recommends connecting the purple cable to D8 to ensure that the automatic log-in function works reliably.

For other important values, the purple cable on D8 serves as a secondary data source. SPEDION therefore recommends connecting the purple cable to D8, but it is not mandatory. For some vehicle types, the connection to D8 can only be realised with great effort and should therefore be considered.

This variant provides for data access via the digital tachograph. If your FMS interface is not activated or you have other problems connecting via the FMS interface, proceed as follows:

You have activated the digital tachograph for remote download.
Your digital tachograph is remote download-capable. (See also: Digital tachographs)

  1. Route the white and yellow cables to the digital tachograph.
  2. Release the digital tachograph from its mounting.
  3. Disconnect the red plug from the digital tachograph.
  4. Measure the resistance directly at the disconnected red plug between C5 and C7.

Option 1: Measurable resistance of 120 Ohm
You do not need to make any adjustments. Continue with the next step.

Option 2: Measurable resistance of 60 Ohm
Cause: There is one terminating resistance too many.
Locate and remove the unnecessary resistance.

A terminating resistance on the TruckBox E side can be removed by cutting the yellow bridge between contacts 4 and 16 on the Molex connector.

Option 3: Measurable resistance of 0 Ohm
Cause: There is a short circuit.
Determine and eliminate the cause of the short circuit.

  1. Connect the white cable (CAN-Low) of the SPEDION cable loom to C7 of the red plug.
  2. Connect the yellow cable (CAN-High) of the SPEDION cable loom to C5 of the red plug.
  3. Place a bridge between contacts C7 and C8 on the red C connector.
  4. Reattach the red plug to the digital tachograph.
  5. Connect the purple cable of the SPEDION cable loom to D8 of the brown plug.
  6. Put the digital tachograph back into its holder.
  7. Continue with the connection of your Android device to the power supply.
